Meet our October Funder of the Month: Hillman Family Foundations

We are so very proud to call The Henry L. Hillman Foundation our ally, supporter and partner as we work together to improve the quality of life in Pittsburgh by addressing community issues and critical needs of our residents.

The Henry L. Hillman Foundation is part of a network of Foundations associated with the Hillman Family reaching cities across the country with 18 named Foundations across the country, 14 of which serve Pittsburgh. In 2015, the Hillman Family Foundations distributed nearly $28 million in support of various initiatives.

A recent $100,000 grant from the Opportunity Fund of the Henry L. Hillman Family Foundation is supporting the creation of Pittsburgh’s first city-wide mobile resource trailer, which will equip residents and community organizations with the landscaping tools, resources and expertise needed to target blight and vacancy in their neighborhoods. Neighborhood Allies and GTECH Strategies are partnering to develop this new mobile resource, which, once activated, will support community efforts to implement and maintain community assets while fostering community capacity building among neighbors.

Additional funding over the years from Hillman has also supported the local Pittsburgh network of Financial Opportunity Centers (FOC), which help low and moderate income families build assets and attain financial stability and upward mobility. Hillman’s support helped us launch three FOCs across the city, which in just one year of operations, have provided bundled services to 526 individuals–363 have obtained employment and 315 have increased their net income.

Our work would not be possible without the tremendous support of funders like Hillman. We’d like to take this opportunity to showcase and thank the Foundation for their continued commitment and support of our mission to support the people, organizations and partnerships committed to creating and maintaining thriving neighborhoods.
